I don't know which side is yours, but there were zero consequences for all of Obama's broken promises and Trump is basically trying to hold and break as many positions and promises as possible. Yet he still has a massive amount of support from the GOP.

There are few things sadder in politics than party loyalists who actually think their party is virtuous and above it all. It's like being a cult member. The people at the top are just using your misguided faith to their own ends.

It is about a lack of courage to change zoning, which leads to variances that require public approval. In areas with by right multifamily housing zones, you might need to deal with a commission or city department (which is why he wants to work with them!) but not a neighborhood organization

Who the fuck do you think elects people onto the city commission? It's NIMBYs electing NIMBYs. You are woefully ignorant of how these things work, of how these people stop housing from being built based on political ideology. You can be told that your project will get blocked simply because of the racial demographics in the area. You can be told your project will be blocked because selling your property would make you money and that's bad. This is what he means by "equitable" zoning restrictions.

Stop casually dismissing his support for rental control, increased taxation on private housing and increased government involvement in housing. This is not an honest person just looking to solve a housing shortage.

Reinvest in managing the property or developing new properties if they're good. But yeah a lot do nothing. I found it really funny when I was in allegedly communist China and I was hanging out with this guy who had tons of money and was on vacation during a normal work week, so I asked him what he does, oh I have property in Beijing that I rent out. Guess you just can't escape the lazy landlord.

I know exactly how it works, and I think this is a caricature of the process, though the process is very bad. I also said 'may' not 'will' for a reason, because likely many developments wouldn't need input from a commission outside certain designated (historic, etc) planning districts.

But again, the federal government has no ability to get rid of these processes directly. It's a constitutional issue; states could address this for cities in their state, but not the federal government.

Which means the best you can hope for is that we try to induce citues to relax exclusionary zoning laws so that fewer developments need approval in the first place, and so that the areas in which they can even be proposed cover a larger part of the city. Working with actors at different levels of government is going to be necessary to make that work.

What he means by equitable based on the plan as its written is ending exclusionary zoning and promoting inclusionary zoning. Again a tradeoff NIMBYs have made in various cities.

Anyway you just said your opposition here is because you think he's a typical NIMBY and that's about what I figured.

I actually think the consequence of Obama's broken promises is the rise of the DSA, sort of how Bush's broken promises lead to the tea party which lead to trump.

Basically it ultimately leads to the breakdown of our mainstream political system in the long-term. But there's no incentive for either side to change course in the short term. And it's hard to do anyway, like how the never trump GOP was never shit and basically capitulated immediately. Kind of a collective action trap.

The plan is really bad ok

If universal housing is anything like China, they'll build huge apartment complexes, invest nothing on maintenance, they go to crap in about 10 years and then are mostly abandoned after that.
