You know, one of the, I guess, unpopular opinions I have is that I think The Jurassic Park theme is borderline lazy and unremarkable. Competent, but unremarkable.

It's boring. The theme is so basic. I don't remember the opening but their must have been some on screen stuff to punctuate it. I will say I feel it's way below what John Williams is capable of. The Motif of the Theme is mediocre at best and gets repeated with almost no development.

As for Jurassic Park though, I am only talking about the main Theme. I can't comment on the rest of the sound track.
But this seems nowhere near peak John Williams.
Really, compared to Jaws and the Star Wars themes?
Or E.T.? Indiana Jones?

John Williams is like a fine wine, improving with age. Going thru his works is insane because they are pretty much ALL good. I forgot he even did Harry Potter because he has so many other hits and HP was amazing work.

But we are talking about The Jurassic Park Theme. Do you really think it some of his best stuff?
Even just main themes.

Ya, I'm not trying to be a hater. I just don't understand the praise the JP theme gets....unless maybe it's considered more accessible to many. It's certainly less nuanced than other works from Williams.

Just the Motif of the main theme, is basic as fuck and repeated many times with basically no development or recapitulation. It's an amazingly basic theme for someone with his skill. I would actually consider it a Williams throw away piece. Or maybe some at home in the middle of the movie. But not opening credits worthy.

I was just re listening and I will admit, I think the movie makes it 10x better because how awesome the scenes are when the theme hits, but it's still a great piece just by itself.

Ya, that is what I suspected it. Not just for you, but for others.
There is an effect that syncing music with video has.
But as pure music, it really isn't all that.

Thanks for keeping an open mind though...it's just something I've noticed lately about that song.
