I did a prerelease sealed for the first time ever at the local comic store, had a pretty good time despite going 1-3. Could have easily been 3-1 if I'd just played around things better. Oh well!

I haven't played much since Allegiance, so I'm missing basically every card from m20 and War... I don't have much incentive to get into standard right now so I'll probably just keep on doing Eldraine limited for the time being.

Yeah, I think the sealed format is still ass, but I havent hated draft so far. I think the format can be a little bomb-centric, but its not as bad as the last few sets.

There is quite a bit of solid removal and value to offset the bombs, although all 3 walkers are absurd.

I've never played sealed before Eldraine so it very well could be ass compared to others, but i don't have that point of reference.

The main pain point for me during the prerelease was one guy got Garruk out on turn 5 in both of the bo3 games so there was absolutely nothing I could do there. I was able to deal with Oko and the 2 mana flash reach guy without too much hassle.

This is true, but I also feel like a lot of the Eldraine archetypes are pretty synergy-based, which makes sealed even worse when you don't open the enablers for those archetypes.

Maybe some, but lacking a mobile app probably means it will miss out on a decent amount of people looking to jump.

As someone who has been looking to at least diversify into MTGA along with Hearthstone, my main obstacle is actually a Mac client, since trying to get it to run under WINE was really buggy for me. I did see that its actually on their radar recently, at least.

Getting almost anything to work with WINE is a chore.

I really do want Arena on my phone.

I think the rest of my play and deck construction was garbage, given that i had both of those cards from the draft though. Feels bad.

Oh i don't remember. I tried splashing blue because i had the +1/+1 if you draw a second card and i had tons of ways to do that with red. I had some fixing and my mana was never really an issue despite going 3 colors. But the guys i lost to had really cohesive drafts that synergized well.

Mostly i just wanted to vent.

But in general, if you are given two top tier bombs in pack 2 picks 1 and 2, is it worth pivoting completely? Or do you ignore them and try to stick with your original plan? What are your rules of thumb here? It seems silly to me to base your entire deck strategy off of the pack that happens to be the first one you open. But obviously you need to be careful and mindful about it, which i was not. I didn't even settle on GR splash blue until after i lost the first game and cut out my black splash

Always be open to pivot in pack 2. If you open a sweet bomb and theres isn Murder-tier removal thats already in a main color in the pack, grab it and see if it can work. This is why I often like to be only in one main color by the end of pack 1.

Yeah, definitely be open to swapping colors in pack 2 if you see something bananas, but also try to be cognizant of what cards you were seeing in pack 1. Like, if you open The Great Henge in pack 2 for example, that's a card that's 100% worth taking even if you weren't in green, but if you were seeing pretty much zero green cards throughout pack 1, keep in mind that you're likely not going to get very many in pack 3 either, so you need to weigh if it's worthwhile to move into that color given you may only see one pack worth of cards from it.

This advice is fairly moot on Arena though because lol Arena bots.

Its either Field of the Dead in Standard or one of Astrolabe or Ephemerate in Pauper.

Unless theyre total madlads and ban Urza in Modern, but theyll be reluctant to ban yet another card from Modern Horizons in Modern.

The Mastery Pass is only worth it if youre confident you will play enough to make at least level 80 imo since it effectively refunds 200 gems every ten levels. Its also a slow burn, so if you want more immediate rewards, play more Limited.
