Once I play people close to skill level, they either excessively pop off in victory, sometimes not even if its close. Other times Ill win and people go 0-100 in anger, while some slowly build the anger up. Makes me feel awful, then when I left early cause I lost all energy due to that, they got mad at me for messing up bracket. so I came back and won but still, didnt make me feel better at all.

Its a shame because most of the time I would gladly call these people friends. I feel like Im not in the wrong for this but idk.

Fortunately people around here generally know to clean themselves. I think theres been a few times where a singular person had an issue. In which case I avoided them.

I tried to play in a Smash tournament at a convention once. It was scheduled at like 2 but they kept delaying it and as 3 krept up I just gave up and forgot about it. Lol

So basically they have 0 control over their emotions? Sounds about right.

Don't bother with them next time.

I dunno if I could ever play smash at a con, not that Ive gone to one. Itd probably bottleneck me hard from trying new stuff.

You're not in the wrong for feeling the way you do TC. I love video games and competitive fighting games and like improving and testing my skills against other people despite not being pro level, but I sometimes I usually hate playing some people, because they forget that it's main purpose is for mutual entertainment and fun and let their ego run wild and be absolute scumbags. Serious, non playful, "popping off" is toxic and disrespectful as fuck, as it's basically a form of prolonged gloating that subjects the defeated to further embarrassment when they may just really want to fist bump / handshake and then get some air, etc. and get over the tension after the match. If players would try to build each other up instead of tear each other down, the various fighting game communities could become more tight knit and stronger in the long run, but that will never happen. Not everyone can rise to the "challenge" of being a decent person.

I had people get angry at me when I beat them. I remember beating a Palutena player who was fuming after losing. You could feel the anger and he even janked his controller badly. I also had my first rage quit like a week ago where a Ridley player just quit the game after getting roller'd in a last stock last game situation. I dunno but I actually felt bad over that for some reason.

Thats an interesting way to look at it. I believe popping off usually isnt meant in a bad way, even when people do it out of anger. People build up a lot of emotions and just have to let it out some way. But man, I wish people could hold in their joy or saltiness just a little bit sometimes. I always fistbump right after a win or loss, I believe its the most respectful thing to do. I feel like the frequency of people who pop off on me is way higher than anyone else in my local. I guess because how good I am fluctuates and maybe the characters I play,

I feel terrible every time someone gets mad after playing me, its so awful. I cant revel in salt or anything, thats just not my personality.

Playing in a tournament is stressful. The popoff is the culmination of that stress

True enough. I never hold it against someone for popping off, but these people seem like theyre only stressed against me or something, and everyone else is just par the course. The difference between beating someone who gets mad and someone who respectfully fist bumps or handshakes is amazing,

Different game but same premise....I played in a Madden Challenge event a few years ago and I was beating the guy so badly he tried to hit my control out of my hand. I had to go and get a tournament official who then ended the game and deemed me the winner. Kid was fuming mad.

I change characters all the time. More recently been using Palutena, my area is infested with superheavy mains. I actually stopped playing Smash in tournament for a long while, I think Im remembering why.

Fortunately Ive not had it that bad, there is one guy there who goes off the wall but is relatively tame in tournament.
