Pretty much the same concept and everything. A group of scientists and hard-boiled dudes go into hazardous zones to collect potentially alien artifacts that usually resemble every day items. The only difference is that the origin of the artifacts in SCP are typically left unknown, while in Roadside Picnic it's explicitly stated that the emergence of these strange artifacts is due to the existence of extraterrestrial life leaving its refuse in the wake of visiting several places on the planet, that in turn either dictate the warping of every day material into anomalous entities or were originally extraterrestrial in nature.
