I agree completely. It has no redeeming qualities, yet all the elements you need for a truly good epic are just lying around in the prose. It might be one of the worst things I've ever read.

I read Gardens of the Moon, and while it had some good scenes and was overall pretty fun it felt like a total information dump with unexplained concepts and characters that the book seemed to expect me to know already.
