While the transition from looking clean cut and shaven for white men has become socially acceptable, the same has not occurred for black men. The "ideal" standard look for a black man is a really clean looking haircut and as minimal facial hair as possible, whereas white men are growing out their facial hair and head hair at a more common rate. In the black man's case, he's called "homeless"... not so for the white man, who would more likely be called lumberjack, rugged, or mountain man.

Why is this?

Beards for black men have become more socially acceptable, but you better bet they don't have long hair on their head.
