Were the game gear and master system versions different?

I dont think so other than screen resolution.

Hes talking about the phone versions though.

Sonic 1 has unlockable Tails and Knuckles.

Sonic 2 has that, as well as adding the beta Hidden Palace Zone as a hidden area you can play through. you access it by falling into the troll pit in Mystic Cave Zone

They're completely different games from genesis Sonic 1 and 2.

Yeah, both games let you play as Sonic, Sonic/Tails, Tails, and Knuckles. Sonic 2 lets you play as Knuckles/Tails too.

Everyone gets Super Forms in both games.

Sonic 1 has an option to enable a 7th chaos emerald for an extra bonus stage and the ability to play as a Super Form

Sonic 2 has Hidden Palace as a secret Zone with a new boss. Plus an 8th Special Stage (just for fun) and a Boss Rush Zone.

Both games still have debug mode and even have additional beta elements that were cut from the original ROMs that you can mess around with.

They're literally the best versions and I have no clue why Sega is content with them staying on phones forever >_>

Yeah, it really sucks. I want to play them, but I'm not going to do with with a touchscreen "gamepad".

Honestly Im a huge hater of mobile games for their touch interface, but the Sonic games work out surprisingly well.

Kinda wish the other Sega mobile classics worked out as well. For some reason sonic works great but stuff like Golden Axe is a massive pain

I have played with gamepads my whole life, so there is a certain pleasure gained there with using actual buttons that will be lost with a ghost touch screen for me, especially since I grew up with those two games specifically. Also, my phone is old as well anyway.

Well honestly, the touchpad works pretty well with the game >_> That's personally not something I would knock against it

I mean, if you really want you could use any controller with Bluetooth support. But you could also just git gud with touchscreen controls LOL

Touch controls work well for Sonic because of how fluid the movement is, but yeah these should be on a console/PC instead of genesis re-releases.
And Sonic 3 remaster isnt even a thing at all too. Why did they cancel that one when its considered best to second best out of the classics for most?

No clue. Whitehead even made a demo of it on his own time and posted it on youtube and pitched to Sega, but they shot it down. I'm guessing cuz of the Michael Jackson music stuff?
