This is why you set multiple alarms.

Ideally with more than one device.

I'm sure it's more about the Judge getting pissed he had to wait than caring about "the due administration of justice being "impeded".

At least the sentence got lowered, but they're still trying to make an example out of him.

it was a civil trial, it wasn't that serious

I had jury duty this past week and missed two afternoon checkins >_> fortunately an afternoon call is super rare and even rarer if you already were summoned (which I was).

All he had to do was call them and say he was going to be late or couldn't make it. Penalty is for the lack of consideration and not giving a shit about his responsibilities.

While I'd argue the court was pretty heavy-handed, he has no one to blame but himself for what happened. It would have taken all of two minutes to call in and let them know.
