This is a topic to rate the contest strength of potential newcomers in the current contest environment.

I will pick the characters to rate and discuss for each day from user nominations - whoever the 3 most nominated characters are at that time. If there are more than 3 I will pick randomly. You can nominate any number of characters at any time, but you cannot nominate the same character twice.

All characters who were present in the 2018 Character Battle will NOT be eligible. Otherwise you can nominate any character that has appeared in video games; even comic book characters. This will exclude real-life athletes who have only appeared in long running sports series, however I will accept those who have their own games such as Shaq. I will accept nominations for iconic gaming duos too, if there is a compelling reason for both characters to be linked (either co-starring in a game ala Banjo & Kazooie, or always appearing together like Callie & Marie from Splatoon).

Each day will have a separate topic, and nominations will carry over. As far as actually rating the character's contest strength; I ask that users rank a characters potential strength with one of the following qualifiers - LAW Fodder, Low Fodder, Mid Fodder, High Fodder, Fodder Line, Low Midcarder, Midcarder, High Midcarder, Near Elite, Elite, LAW Tier (capable of beating Link). I will average all the ratings given to a character to come up with their final ranking. I have included a highlighted entrant from Character Battle X on each tier of the strength rankings below, to provide a baseline for each.

Note that LAW Fodder is meant to be a tier reserved for the weakest possible characters to put into a contest. A character will only be placed there if at least 3/4ths of the voters for that day agree on the LAW Fodder rating, and no ratings above Low Fodder are given. If either of those conditions are not met, the character will not be eligible for the LAW Fodder tier.

It is hard to place Sin based on it's match in 2005. Sin kept it very close with Robotnik despite having one of the worst pics in contest history. I think that Sin gets a lot of respect due to its plot role in FFX and what it represents as a villain, and will do better with a good pic. So I will say Fodder Line for Sin.

Mid Fodder for Mai Valentine. I'm sure a decent portion of Gfaqs had childhood crushes on Mai, and she absolutely will benefit from TJF. However I don't think anyone cares too much for her aside from that - she's only a side character from the Yugioh series and her appearances in games have amounted to glorified cameos.

I will just barely give Prinny High Fodder. He's the mascot of the series and players just seem to really like Prinnies. There's been a spinoff game starring Hero Prinny as well. That said the appeal of Prinny is totally lost on anyone who hasn't played a Disgaea game. The series is still kind of niche despite the countless remakes and remasters of the 5 main games.

Sin: Sin is Jecht is a meme, and also a spoiler. Anyway, FFX has always looked decent, though not extraordinary, here, but I don't see very many people caring that much for this... this thing, given its appearance. The 2005 match pic exemplifies that. Fodder Line sounds right.

Mai: Mid Fodder. Nostalgia for the anime - and its infamous Abridged variant - helps her cause enough. She's not a major character at all, so I can't see her doing as well as Kaiba or Yami Yugi, ergo she has to be Mid or Low Fodder. Perhaps I'm overestimating the nostalgia factor here, however.

Prinny: Mid Fodder. Did respectably against Ike in 2010 and got 23% on Cloud in 2013. That's not bad. With the recent remaster, it's still relevant, and I don't see it being much weaker. It's also cute, so I agree that it barely being High Fodder could be argued.

Sin (Final Fantasy X) - High fodder

FFX hasn't fallen off a cliff but I don't think it's quite what it used to be either. Doesn't help that Sin doesn't have much of a personality other than Jecht if you count that. And I think some people will, hence why I have it as high and not mid fodder. And yeah, almost guaranteed to look bad in the picture again.

Mai Valentine (Yugioh) - Low fodder

I just don't think she's prevalent enough for people to necessarily care.
