70% of their animated movies with human protagonist have a beautiful woman falling in love with a prince. Sometimes the girl is a princess, most of the time she's not. Even fucking TARZAN was retroactively made into a Norwegian prince. I guess "Lord of the Jungle" wasn't literal enough for them. It even creeps into animal movies now and then. Simba and Bambi are royalty and their girls are not.

Aladdin and Frozen are the only times a normal dude got with a princess (and Frozen shouldn't count because he got with the bland sister). And you never see a non-royal man get with a non-royal woman unless they're background characters like the parents from Peter Pan or the couple from 101 Dalmatians.

I guess it's the traditional conception of a fairytale ending, so Disney are sticking to that format.

Nice to see Disney defending good old-fashioned institutions like marriage and er monarchy, apparently.

They have a successful history with it. Its an easy concept to produce and at some point, the idea of "A NEW PRINCESS" being introduced became a big deal that gave the movie a lot of free publicity. And you can't have a princess without a prince.

Tarzan was always part of a noble family. Not a prince but always British nobility at least.

Who is now a Prince. Yeah the Tangled cartoon just revealed that Eugene is the lost prince of a dead kingdom.

The way things are going Frozen 2 will reveal that Kristoff is a Prince.

Basing large quantities of their catalogue on public domain fairy tales probably has the most to do with it. Most of those were the message fiction of their day trying to impart rewards come to decent people and bad people get bad ends.

They've also taught us that pigs often rely on cheap and substandard construction materials when building homes, that your bedridden grandmother might be a wolf in disguise, and that elderly women living alone in the woods will almost certainly try to eat your children. A wealth of wisdom, really.
