For me I really need someone who is going to be able to guide me through healthier thought processes and hold me accountable to doing so. Yeah I need an outlet but I need to reframe my mind and thats harder to do by myself than I originally thought (though Ive made some progress since being medicated) I also value someone I feel isnt the polar opposite of me. I dont think I would benefit well from a male therapist for that reason alone, though I dont have anything against male therapists (if that makes sense).
