They just have too much business and don't give a crap. Experienced this mainly with roofers, hvac techs, plumbers, and even car dealers; you call them, leave a voicemail, and they never return calls.

That's why people shouldn't be dissuaded from trade schools. Everyone needs plumbers. Everyone needs roofers. Everyone needs HVAC.

Yup. Happened so many times. With multiple top rated companies (via home advisor, Google, Yelp, etc.). Seems like the only way to actually get someone is to know someone else, get referred, and say that you were referred by "x".

Tradesmen: *Never answers calls* Why is business so slow?

They do need to make money, they're making it on other jobs which is why they haven't got back to you.

A lot of trades like that are simply overwhelmed with business. It's like that right now at the mower and power equipment place I work. We have an active wait list of people simply because we have so much business right now, we have no room in the workshop to bring more in.

Rather they aren't desperate to make money. They have options on where to work and will pick jobs that are best for their interests. Kind of inflates the market if you ask me, but hey that's what happens when you get a 4 year degree and complain about money but could have done it in 2 and made twice the amount right off the bat if you wanted.

First off, don't call big places for rinky dink jobs.
Mom & Pop shops are more likely to get back to you, have better pricing, and are more flexible on hours, etc.

Small timers have their place. Home renos are one of those places.

I guess for small jobs, handymen are better. But even them, they don't answer or return calls.
