Can't believe David Boreanaz killed Angel for Bones. Probably makes more money, but not really an upgrade in reputation.

Psych? Some CSI:SVU is good, especially the ones based on real stories.

I remember a long time ago I think it was more "grounded."

Now, there are episodes where some guy was killed by one of his unexposed wisdom teeth being pushed into his brain by a karate chop against his neck. They'll have the body in the lab and the side couple will talk about how his perforated lungs look like the peanut squash spaghetti they're eating. Bones and the main guy will shit around talking to random people with crazy jobs including a moon landing denier, a trophy buck hunter who goes out into the blistering cold naked to be more inconspicuous, and a grieving widow who off-handedly mentions how he wanted to go to the dentist. Then they'll discover in the lab that he was actually stabbed in the head to death but there was no entry wound because his eyeball had already decomposed into being unrecognizable. The main guy will assault a hapless witness for being "uncooperative" and then Bones will have a Eureka moment as she realizes the pole flag in the moon landing denier's studio had been moved a bit as shown by the markings of the lunar sand, deducing that traces of flesh will still be on its shaft. The moon landing denier tries to get violent and then the may guy shoots him and everyone high fives.

I actually particularly hate Psych. I've heard good things about SVU and the real story thing is a plus, but I'm just too turned off to the genre.

I suggested Psych exactly because it is so unlike the other "Who Dunnits." It doesn't take itself too seriously, it focuses on the jokes, and still manages to be a decent forensic show. I am not a huge fan, but I really enjoyed the Twin Peaks episode. If you like Twin Peaks, you can just watch that one and be fine.

Most American detective shows are just daytime garbage produced at low cost for the aging Boomer generation. If you want something more imteresting, try Sherlock from the BBC (at least the first season). It's a huge genre, I'm sure there's something you would like.

I've only seen a few episodes but I think the tone rubbed me the wrong way. Like if Prince Charming and Baloo or some Disney characters decided to become detectives. And was the white dude supposed to do psychological stuff at some point, like assume that other people didn't make use of microexpressions and then touch himself while a coworker fawned over him for knowing the word for it? I kinda got the vibe that that was supposed to happen but the show was no longer running through the motions to spend more time on the corny stuff.

Oh just saw post 17. Sherlock was a lot of fun up until like that last ep.

Edit to respond to 17:
I think what I don't like about the genre in general is the way it sanitizes and fetishizes crime at the same time, whether it's Bones or Psych or Criminal Minds, if that makes sense.

Fun fact, there was a show called Whodunnit that was a murder mystery reality show and every wee, the contestant who did the worst was "killed" in a staged mysterious death and the following week, the remaining people could do autopsies on the fake corpses.

The network got lots of backlash because tons of morons watching it thought they were literally killing their contestants and that the bodies were real >_<

Holy crap, that's great. I had an idea for a podcast a while ago where four valley girls ask their audience what kind of murder they'd like to see next week, ask them to vote for a weapon etc., and then go do it and report back.

Yeah it was a fun show. A bit cheesy but fun. My coworker and I both watched it and both had strong predictions for who the killer was. Both our people were in the final 4 so it seemed there was a 50/50 shot one of us was correct. We both lost though. My prediction was killed in 4th and his in 3rd. The actual killer did a very good job selling themselves as not the killer.

I liked the first few seasons. Bones herself was a really good example of how people who are that intelligent can come across. Well acted by her and Boreanez is always a treat, but they killed it when they started introducing the interns.

Daisy being a fucking moron while also being a forensic anthropologist makes absolutely no fucking sense. Zack being a shy awkward boy who becomes the assistant to a cannibal makes no sense. Nigel spouting off random factoids would never have gotten him out of grad school never mind a job and the list goes on.

They stretched the truth too far after the first few years.
