Instead of how much $ a movie grosses because tickets are 15 bucks now instead of 5 when I was a child makes no sense.

They should count how many people go see it, like record sales when there actually was physical media.

I understand the money is important to the people that make the movies but when you look at lists of highest grossing films and you see a movie older than 10 years old on it you can bet it was probably more popular than some brand new movie with 4k screens and 3d glasses.
