yea it's weird. but it does explain why in later games they don't add as many new ones anymore. the first few generations they had like 150 new ones each time. and then it slowed down. didn't X and Y only have like less than 100 new ones or something?

The generations flip-flopped between adding around 100 or less (even-numbered gens) and around 150 (odd-numbered gens). 7th gen is the exception in that it only added 86 (88 if you count Meltan and Melmetal which were exclusive to Pokemon GO and Let's Go).
