Freelance journalists who work for corporations can only make 35 articles per year.

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/everybody-is-freaking-freelance-writers-scramble-make-sense-new-california-law-1248195

It's a double edged sword, but at least the good news is that the number of far left hitpieces and hatebait will go down, because those hitpieces mostly come from freelancers in Silicon Valley and not the newsroom, while normal news (and unfortunately Orange Man Bad) comes from those either in the newsroom or another state such as NY.

The irony is the people most impacted by this game-changing law probably unintentionally voted for it's enactment without recognizing the future consequence to themselves. It's like that meme of the women spraying mace in front of her while running into it.

I mean, we're talking about California...

This is what I'm talking about... big government trying to tell people what's good for them.

California has great weather and good paying jobs, but these idiot politicians are destroying companies and people's lives with their nanny state approach.

They can't come up with a long-term solution to keep the shit out of the streets and fix their homeless problem, but they have plenty of time to tell people how to live their lives.

I've been saying this for months if it wasn't clear enough. AB5 is a over-reaching clusterfuck of a bill dreamt up by SJW politicians who doesn't understand how the world works. It's like they don't realize that some people WANT to be freelancers, they want to be part-time workers and they want the flexibility to set their own schedule.

AB5 is about to make a lot of companies and people miserable come January 1, 2020. Companies will go out of business, job creation will come to a halt, people will lose jobs and it could lead to a recession.

35 attempts a year per company. Don't see what the big deal is, making a company that treats people as employees having to make them actual employees instead of independent contractors.

Laws literally saying reporters can't report isn't violating freedom of the press?

Nothing stopping them from reporting. Just that if they sell 35 stories to the same company, they better be an employee for 36+. They are free to sell 35 to company A, 35 to company B, and so on.

California is not that wealthy. It's in debt and they over-tax everyone to compensate and a lot of people are leaving the state. It's one of the worst managed states given how my money they take from tax-payers. Funds are wasted and the politicians are corrupted. millions are wasted every year on dumb projects like shit street cleaning, instead of investing in brush/dead tree clearing.

Why the hell do you think PG&E is going to shut power down again? They don't clear the dead trees and a little bit of wind will knock down power lines and cause a massive wildfire. $5/gallon for gas, high supplemental property taxes, high income taxes isn't enough money for these idiots to waste.

Bad turn of phrase, but sometimes law makers push laws to test the boundaries of the Constitution. If the law passes, it can be challenged in court. Courts may decide that part or all of the law is valid or invalid, depending on circumstances.

Plenty of states pass laws that are unconsistutional. Sometimes they know ahead of time and are seeking to please there base, sometimes they don't. Look at all the clearly unconstitutional anti-abortion laws, extreme gerrymandering, anti-protest laws, and more.
Here's a fun read: https://law.justia.com/constitution/us/state-laws-held-unconstitutional.html

Cali household income: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._states_and_territories_by_income
Federal tax revenue: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federal_tax_revenue_by_state

I have no idea how this law affects anything, but maybe the Dems passed the law so NO ONE could use shitty tactics. Maybe poltics isn't a zero-sum game...

So liberal politics as usual then.

What's the context behind who was pushing for this? Freelance journalists are one of the most left-leaning groups, so I'm curious where you support is coming from.
