Jessica Yaniv speaks to media after the final day of hearings in July, 2019. The B.C. Human Rights Tribunal found Tuesday she had not been discriminated against by estheticians who refused her waxing services.

The B.C. Human Rights Tribunal has ruled against a transgender woman who brought 15 discrimination complaints after she was refused wax services at more than a dozen beauty salons.

Jessica Yaniv, who identifies as female but has male genitalia, contacted the businesses through Facebook messages requesting appointments, including for a Brazilian wax which is a service to remove most or all female pubic hair.

But according to Tuesday's decision, "... human rights legislation does not require a service provider to wax a type of genitals they are not trained for and have not consented to wax."

"Self-identification does not erase physiological reality," said Jay Cameron of the the Justice Centre. "No woman should be compelled to touch male genitals against her will, irrespective of how the owner of the genitals identifies."

Seems fair to me. I mean it sucks for the transgendered person, but I can totally see the reasoning behind this one. I dunno a thing about the waxing industry, but Id imagine women basically exclusively wax other women and the same goes for men as far as genital waxing goes? There isnt really like a fair fix for this sorta thing though. You cant really force women trained to wax women to perform a waxing on male genitals (and honestly I wouldnt want somebody inexperienced to wax that area anyways since thats just asking for pain and problems....). At the same time this person might not be comfortable going to a male waxing place since they dont identify as a male and theres probably 0 or close to 0 waxing places that could help them with this issue.

I think Jessica Yaniv is a predator. Yes, there are transgender predators, just as there are cis-predators. I really hope people don't try to say she's representative of Trans people, because she's not. There's a lot of horrible people in the world, and she happens to be one of them. This isn't the only case where her behavior has been called out.

There are DM's between her and others wherein she talks about fantasizing about helping a 10 year old girl put on a tampon. She claims the DM's were faked, and it's certainly possible, but they're hard to ignore when you've got this case as well. (Though this case is also being somewhat misrepresented since some of her allegations were that they wouldn't wax her arms and/or legs rather than her genitals.) Not to mention I believe she has abuse allegations against her by a 15 year old (again, I don't know how true they are, but hearing that there are allegations raises some red flags for me.)

Overall, I think people are going to use this case to try to set back trans rights, and it's going ot help people feel justified by it. Which is a rather unfortunate side effect for trans people, where the actions of one affect them all, and the public perception of them all.
