It has to be.

When its not raining, theres droughts. When it does rain, it floods. Then you throw in mudslides, fires, and earthquakes. Most states only gotta deal with like one natural inconvenience whether it be snow or hurricanes or whatever. California has a bunch of them.

Cut down all the trees and remove dead foliage? Bam! No more big forest fires.

Other than that, what? Earthquakes? Well, they haven't had any recently that are worse than the yearly hurricanes that hit the southeast coast.
