I value offensive stats so much more than defense. Playing DQXI right now and I just can't stop.

Normally not a problem, but like for example I've got a robe or something that increases magic attack by 5, but there's another one in the shop that has like 25 more defense. I am so hesitant to upgrade the armor because the subtraction of magic attack really irks me.

Why am I like this?

because defense sucks in gaming. killing things fast will always > taking less damage

During your formative years you were surrounded by bullies who physically oppressed you. This conditioned you with an instinctual drive for strength, and any compromise fills you with dread and anxiety because in the back of your mind you just need to be the strongest, so no one will ever be able to bully you again.

...or JRPGS are just poorly balanced and incentivize max attack because most encounters are trash mobs that dont penalize you for neglecting defense
