I doubt the average consumer is aware that their phone can wireless-charge.

I know of at least one person that uses a wireless charger but they don't have a case on their Iphone (which interferes with wireless charging). Other than them I haven't stumbled across another person who uses a wireless charger for their phone.

From Wikipedia:

Inductive charging (also known as wireless charging or cordless charging) is a type of wireless charging that uses an electromagnetic field to transfer energy between two objects using electromagnetic induction, the production of electricity across a magnetic field. Inductive charging is usually done with a charging station or inductive pad. Energy is sent through an inductive coupling to an electrical device, which can then use that energy to charge batteries or run the device. It is the technology that enables smartphone wireless charging, such as the Qi wireless charging standard.

In simple English, there is a wireless charging pad (accessory sold separately) that you can plug into the socket on the wall. You just put your phone on top of the charging pad and voila, it starts charging. Thats wireless charging in a nutshell.

Not every phone supports this, but most phones from over the past few years should support wireless charging. Honestly I dont think wireless charging is worth the investment yet. Ill wait until the tech improves before thinking of using it.

You cant use wireless charging while your phone still has its case on, so you would have to remove it.

This isn't entirely true though.

Oddly my mom does, I have no idea why.

I had a wireless charger for one of my phones and it mostly worked OK. It would occasionally forget the phone was there and just stop charging it, but that wasn't very often. Overall though it just wasn't that much more convenient than just plugging my phone in.

Yeah my apologies. I just did a quick research and it says wireless charging still works with the case on, with the bulkier the case being, the slower the charge would be.

I have a wireless charging capable phone but no pad so I cant test it out myself >_>

My roommate bought the OEM wireless charging cover for his Samsung S4 or S5, and after about 6 months the OEM battery had inflated like a balloon. We aren't sure if it was the wireless that did it, but the phone did get pretty hot when charging.

My Galaxy Watch uses wireless charging, but it comes with a fairly low powered adapter, like 700mA, so it never gets too warm.

As for the question... I do use wireless charging when it's available. I do this to ease the wear and tear on my phone's charger/USB port.

A lot of the newer cafes have wireless charging around here.

I have one friend who uses it. He got the accessory for free.

I don't personally understand the great advantage to wireless charging.

You have to lean your phone against a stationary pad, so at that point, what's the difference to just plugging it in?

In fact, I can still have my phone charge, and move it around as long as the cable is connected, with wired charging, where as I can't do that with wireless charging.

It seems like one of those things they're charging you extra for but it doesn't actually make life easier.

A girl at my office has used wireless charging for a while. She took the pad home one day and forgot to bring it back earlier this week, so I let her borrow my cord. She kept marveling at how much faster the cord charged her phone, since she hadnt done it that way in a while.

Id imagine that at some point (not anytime soon), there will be a time where all devices can safely and efficiently be charged simply by being in a room that allows for it.

I use it for my phone, mostly just overnight because I have an upright wireless charger I can keep by my bed so the phone can function as an alarm clock with a digital display that I can look at without needing to grab my phone and look at it. The slower charging speed doesn't bother me since taking 4 hours to charge my phone doesn't matter when I am sleeping for 6-7 hours anyways.

I think I have used my wired charger maybe 2 or 3 times. Fast charging reduces battery life anyways.
