If so what did you have to do to get started?

What's the work day like?

I'm currently a Garbage Man and while I like the job, I am looking for something better.

My wife is a nurse and works with CNAs and from what she's told me it's an okay gig as long as you're okay with bodily fluids/vomit/excrement/etc, being on your feet for prolonged periods, possibly being abused by confused elderly patients or drug addicts etc...

Like any job it has its ups and downs. All boils down to what you can put up with. I personally wouldn't want to clean shit off of a grown adult, but some people aren't phased by that sort of thing

I have been one for almost 20 years. The job sucks. It's not fun being short staffed all the time with people who are getting worse all the time while managing more and more responsiblities.

I have 2 herniated disks thanks to the job, as well contracted MRSA from a resident who purposely would spit in my face. I have had my nose almost broke and there's a scar on my arm from someone biting a piece off

The pay is terrible as are the benefits. Don't do it. Seriously.

Edit for MRSA in case you want to read about it: https://www.webmd.com/skin-problems-and-treatments/understanding-mrsa#1-1

And btw, a lot of people have this so you're always at risk of catching it.

I was a CNA for five years. Its hard work but if you work with good nurses it isnt a bad job. If you work with nurses that expect you to do everything for them though instead of help them make care more manageable, then its a very difficult job.

You learn a great deal about people though.

It's truly amazing how quickly you learn how to make casual conversation and do things while the person is shitting

I learned that death isn't so bad too, especially when living is so insufferable. Some people's minds and bodies are so shot, living would be actually closer to torture

I treated every dead person I took care of with respect and just acted like they were just refusing to wake up
