I pay attention to the signatures for a variety of reasons, but the biggest one is so I can tell what series the note I have in my hands is without having to look at the tiny ass print for the series.

Every Federal Reserve Note denomination has seen design changes throughout their history except the $1 and $2, as their design is the same since 1963 and 1976 respectively, except for the signatures being different based on series year.
