Removing the national dex hurts the game more than the culmination of any new features they could feasibly add will help it. However, a gen 8 Pokemon Stadium could make up for the loss by filling the right roles. A separate game on the Switch, to be a spiritual success to the Pokemon Stadium games and Battle Revolution, could save gen 8.

These are feature that it would need at the absolute minimum to make up for damage done to the mainline titles:

-Every single pokemon, in every form that can be sent to Pokemon Home, needs to be modeled and usable
-Full compatibility with Pokemon Home
-A full set of available battle items and berries, and all mega stones and Z moves
-The ability to prepare teams in a battle box
-Online and local battles can be played in Single, Double, Triple, and Rotation formats
-Every TM must be available, or replaced by move tutors that teach the moves
-Move tutors to teach the standard moves, including moves like Relic Song
-Move reminder/deleter
-Super Training, or a stand in with the same effect
-Hyper Training
-If Sword and Shield has a feature to change the nature of pokemon, it must be available
-A Battle Tower
-A rental facility
-An actual pokedex
-A pokemon viewer
-A way to play with and feed berries to your pokemon, which also allows you to affect happiness/affection (and lower evs)
-minigames of some kind

All of that is 100% mandatory if they wanted to make up for their horrible mistake. These are features that the game should definitely also have, but could be passed over if need be:

-A full blown Battle Frontier
-An inverse battle format
-Pokemon contests, which would necessitate a way to grow berries and make pokeblocks/poffins
-A feature similar to Pokepelago, letting the player assign pokemon tasks to passively make gains
-Pokeathelon or a similar game
-Event matches against special pokemon that let you catch them after winning
-Ball capsules
-A nursery for breeding pokemon, and incubators to hatch them

If they made a game like this, it would solve the problem. Unfortunately, they probably won't make such a game, and we'll end up getting about 1/3rd of those features in Pokemon Home instead.
