Originally when I first filled up my car, it filled all the way up to 400-something (Distance to empty). Now two months later, it filled only up to 356. Is there any reason why its going lower and lower?

I heard those things are based on an estimation

Generally it means you're doing more city driving than it was previously recording, so its estimating that you're going to get worse mpg

Could also be lower tire pressure, more aggressive driving, driving faster on the highway so on so forth

That's not a measure of how much fuel you put in the tank, but rather how far your car thinks it'll go based on you average fuel consumption.

In other words, your gas mileage has gone down for one reason or another.

You're not keeping your tank over half full.

Estimation sounds right, i ran out of gas myself last week with the car saying i had 30 miles left. Just listen to the fuel gauge.

Your car is slowly becoming immune to gasoline. Try putting in diesel every now and then to keep it confused.

Fun fact, you can mix diesel fuel in with the engine oil to clean out any sludge that's built up. It's a shit lubricant though so you have to change the oil entirely after that.

lol Generation Z'ers getting confused with their digital readouts are fucked vs a mechanical gauge.

Do you even know how to change a tire?

When I worked in the service lane at a dealership, I can't count how many people had complaints or concerns about the accuracy of those numbers or why they weren't getting exactly the mileage it promised. Lots of adults and seniors.

at most, the tanks have a few baffles in them...but at the end of the day, it's like trying to measure how much milk is in a jug while it's shaking around. It's amazing how accurate they can be all things considered.

Speaking of gas, I just bought a new car with one of those stupid the-engine-turns-off-at-stoplights feature. Apparently most new cars are coming with this now. I hate the damn thing and there's no way to permanently turn it off. It resets to on every time you start the car.

You're either on the gas too hard or hitting a lot of stops on your commute.

If you have cruise control, use it on free ways when you hit the speed you want. You want to keep the RPM's around 2000-2500 if possible, but this is easier in manual vehicles.

Rav4. But it's in just about every Toyota and Mazda now.

Third party manufacturers have even started making stuff to hook up so that it's permanently disabled. But I like the solution I saw on reddit where one guy folded up a piece of paper and jammed it in there to keep the button permanently pressed, lol.

Make sure you change that oil every 5,000 miles. I've seen new Toyotas that recommend 10/15k, but surprise, surprise, lots of 'em are having engine sludge issues

The only real measure of mileage is how many miles you put into the tank vs the odometer.
