People were more social and less reliant on computers, malls weren't dying left and right, we didn't have GPS to navigate, television programming was rather different (though many tropes do persist to this day of course). People didn't know what was going to happen with Russia or China. You didn't have TSA fingering your butthole every time you went on a flight.

From an industrial/economic standpoint he's right.

Relative to other nations, you're right on the economic part. But what do you mean by industrial? We produce thrice as many cars than in the 1950s, all of which are more efficient in production and mileage, and far safer.
