Bachelor's and MBA

Do you find them to be worthless?

Did you obtain them playing with playdoh and puppies?

That includes people who graduated college decades ago. It says nothing about how many people go to college "these days", as the aforequoted puts it.
Less than 40% of Americans age 25-29 have a Bachelor's degree.

College is the literal opposite of a scam. Stop arguing with me.

Of course it's not a scam. But it is both expensive increasingly necessary, thanks to government enablement and a crappy application and hiring process.

Almost everyone nowadays goes to college.
Only a third of Americans over 25 have a Bachelor's degree, actually. This isn't rocket science, borrowing 30k to make 20k more on average every year is a good investment. You're literally saying something that pays for itself many times over isn't worth the investment.

What a stupid way to invest. You usually only get one degree. You don't make calculations based on what the "average" degree is worth, you make them based on what YOUR degree is worth. This isn't rocket science.

Holy shit you guys would rather die defending the stupid shit you say instead of admitting you were wrong.

Even college graduates with low-paying majors are earning more than the average high school graduate. There's nothing wrong with using averages and you're not refuting my point.

Not if you take into account, loans, interest, and opportunity cost. And yes I am refuting your point because it's wrong and stupid.

I think college in America is bad but not for some "they make kids into liberals" political reasons. I think it's quite the opposite if anything. They trick kids and society at large into thinking they hold progressive values while using this to run a massive extortion scheme. Tuition goes up, the quality of education doesn't. Workers get a worse and worse deal, the vilified tenure is now rare and reserved for those who bring in big grants (which the university keeps the majority of) while teaching is handed off to overworked and under-qualified adjuncts. Evaluations and grading have effectively become meaningless and cheating and student dishonesty overlooked in the sake of maintaining and gaining new students (before I quit being a lecturer they had changed policy to allow students to audit grades they thought were unfair and all cheating accusations were treated as both parties having equal weight in terms of truth). The worst is they used diversity as a cover to import largely upper class people from predominantly China, so they can charge them more. The percent of foreign students keeps increasing because they're the ultimate cash-cow, and the universities aren't afraid to put a stop to the promotion of progressive values if it offends their customers (rich Chinese people). The whole thing has become a joke, but so many people have been suckered into believing they're bastions of progressive values.

Your entire point hinges on a hypothetical scenario where someone picks the lowest paying major they can, enrolls in the most expensive college they can, finances all of it through debt and then maybe doesn't even end up graduating. This is apparently acceptable to do, because it supports your argument. But using averages to get an actual idea of what's really happening? Who does that?!

Sorry but the numbers just don't add up. Even the money you would save on loan payments and interest doesn't make up for the huge gap in income. And we're only talking about wages, the gap in non-wage compensation is even bigger for college graduates.

College is not a scam because someone found insane outliers.

College is not about education. It's about finding better employment. For the majority of students that means rote memorization and learning mechanical skills. It stopped being about education a long time ago when it became a new credential for jobs that don't even need it as a credential.
