I was the same way, played the first one several times but couldn't finish it, played Black Flag and really loved it, then played Origins and *really* loved it and decided to actually play through the whole series.

Every single game after the first one plays so much better than the first, though they're not without their quirks and flaws.

So yeah definitely check it out again.

I've only played 2-3, including Brotherhood and Revelations, and I liked them for the most part, with AC3 being the weakest, IMO.

Ezio is a great character, and AC2 & Brotherhood have amazing puzzles (truth puzzles/clusters), which I don't think appear in any of the other titles.

Ezio trilogy(2, brohood, revelations), black flag, rogue, origins, are all the best

Syndicate, unity, and Odyssey have the charms but are not the best examples of the series

First game aged very poorly.

The Ezio Trilogy are must plays. Then play Origins not only to see how different it is now, but to also see a character that's impossibly better than Ezio.

The first Assassin's Creed has aged horribly. Literally every entry in the franchise is better than the first one.

I fell off at Black Flag tbh. Everyone loved it, I didn't though. I don't play those games for boat shit. Then I tried playing the one in France before it got massively updated. The game was a shit show, never tried to get back in.

I heard Odyssey was decent. Saw some footage, doesn't seem like I want to jump back into the series at this point.

Origins.

The setting feels more relevant, they actually explain Assassin shit in the story, the minimal amount of modern day Animus shit isn't cringey like in Odyssey. Hunting for mats to upgrade your gear gets a little old but you can also survive fine without it.

Odyssey added some features that were kinda cool, like the bounty hunter system (bounty hunters come and chase after you if your notoriety level gets high, each one has a unique perk or quirk or weakness), hunting unique deadly animals, the cult missions and bringing back naval combat. But the naval combat is pretty dry compared to Rogue/Black Flag, and the rest of the game is just awkward. The graphical perspective feels awkward, quests feel really dragged out, there's a Citystate War mechanic where you can "side" with one faction or another except the game doesn't really encourage it unless you don't want to 100% the game, there's no real connection at all to the Assassins and the Animus shit is just really cringey.

Origins. I don't know what it was about Odyssey, it's not bad, but I have less than zero interest in finishing it.

Origins by a long stretch. Better structure, environments, more unique stuff, less mmo grindy shit, better story, and arguably the series best character.

I finished it, I did one of the dlc trilogies but didn't start the second, lost all will to continue. Has too much of the ubisoft grind and monetization

Origins dlc was also excellent. Actual story based expansions in New areas. They actually continued and put a capstone on bayeks story too.

Bayek is one of the best characters in gaming history imo,

I was getting tired of the formula by the time III rolled around, and then IV was an amazing pirate simulator but a tedious Assassin's Creed game, so I'm pretty sure I'm over the series as a whole. I loved all the ship-to-ship combat and trading and such involved, but all of the land missions were dull and repetitive.

I haven't played one since Rogue, and I never quite finished that one.

Unity was alright, Syndicate was fun but tired.

You really should give origins a shot though tbqh, it's a stellar game and a whole different experience. Origins switched things up entirely.

2 and bro hood were great.

The later games added a bunch of stupid unnecessary shit like crafting, leveling up, scavenging for like bits of cloth and shit.

Yes, really. You still need to collect shit like paintings or invest in businesses to generate more money to buy better equipment.

Yes, it wasn't as expansive as it is in Origins, but I don't think Origins' system is terrible either.

I mean the difference is noteworthy. Invest in X thing (which just requires a button press) to get better gear later

Vs

In origins one of the first missions you get. - trail this wagon for 5 miles so you can steal a piece of cloth from it to build a piece of chest armor. Way more tedious and boring

Allow me to speak in favor of Odyssey, which I think has a great mechanical loop to it. I always felt like my progress was being rewarded, either with new loot or with new abilities being available to me upon leveling up. There's some of that in Origins, but it feels much less impactful.

It's a pain in the dick if you're trying to 100% it while still supporting one faction in the war though.

You can retake them over and over again for different factions lol. It's a way to farm xp. Take a zone for Athens, immediately retake it for Sparta, etc.

I know but it's an annoying mechanic, I don't want to replay the forts, I just want to clear them and move on to the next territory. And farming XP I think is worthless (at least as far as I've gone) because you get a ton of XP just playing the game :|

It's really only a thing if you're trying to hit level 99. But all of the max tier upgrading to your gear and ship and stuff is very, very, very expensive.
