The Republican party will be dead. Democrats will probably "rule" with a handful of third party members for a few cycles until the various factions start splitting off into their own parties. Hopefully that doesn't happen until after we abolish FPTP though, so we can finally have a functioning democracy with more than two parties.

once a bunch of red states turn blue, the eternal republican senators will probably start changing the way voting is done and have electoral votes broken up proportionally rather than the winner take all system we have

I'm continually amazed that people actually think you can "defeat" a 2 party system and just have one party that rules over everything. Either a new party will spring up, or (more likely), older dems will become republicans and the party platforms will shift accordingly.
