fuck beyond milk and beyond meat. I find if I put fake milk such as coconut, almond, soy or some other shit in my coffee I still have to put real milk in to get a flavor that doesn't taste watered down

i've found that hemp milk is a decent substitute for milk when preparing oatmeal

it has higher fat content than other vegetarian milks, which is probably the factor you're looking for

i'd try it in coffee but i tend to drink my coffee black (unless i'm having a pumpkin spice latte)

My wife being lactose and not liking homo milk has made me not drink it anymore, I buy 2% just for coffee and cooking

Plant-based milks aren't the only thing the milk industry has to worry about (though it is currently its biggest problem). Lab-grown milk is in the works as well. I imagine it will come way sooner than lab-grown meat since it's just water with fat, proteins, sugar, and minerals. They can even replace the lactose with a different kind of sugar and make it lactose-free.

If Im eating a limited amount of calories, I cringe at the thought of wasting them drinking anything except water.

That's how I see it. Food is where the good stuff is. You can (should) only consume a certain amount of calories a day. Why waste it on a sugary drink?

i don't think that's true. milk is in so many things. most notably cheese. everyone eats the fuck out of pizza all the time.

The number of adults with lactose intolerance is easily over 50%, most estimates are somewhere between 65% and 75%.

Of course it largely depends on ancestry, but I've even noticed with myself that I can't consume as much milk-based products as I used to as a kid, and most of my ancestry is from populations where lactose intolerance is less prevalent.

Civilizations with a pastoral farming system developed and spread the mutation that enables adults to continue to produce lactase as animal milk proved to be a more than adequate source of nutrition in the event that other foods became scarce due to famine or crop failures, and those that could drink milk with no issues fared much better than those that became lactose intolerant into adulthood during shortages.

So no, it's not super weird that some people still drink milk even as adults when many civilizations owe their entire existence to a miraculous mutation.

Almonds take a lot of water compared to some other foods, but it still takes less water than dairy. Cow's milk takes something like 2 or 3x as many liters of water to produce compared to almond. So relatively speaking it's all still an improvement as far as replacing dairy goes, even if it's far from perfect
