Let's say you "supposedly" like something or someone, but to ultimately enjoy that person or product, you have to shit talk about the opposition of said product first.

For example, you enjoy GameSpot game reviews but instead of just sticking with that and enjoying everything that is has to offer, you MUST also shit talk about IGN game reviews to bring about more enjoyment. Is there a logic or term for this?

Selection bias IIRC
Selection bias is the bias introduced by the selection of individuals, groups or data for analysis in such a way that proper randomization is not achieved, thereby ensuring that the sample obtained is not representative of the population intended to be analyzed.[1] It is sometimes referred to as the selection effect. The phrase "selection bias" most often refers to the distortion of a statistical analysis, resulting from the method of collecting samples. If the selection bias is not taken into account, then some conclusions of the study may be false.

I don't understand a fucking word of the wiki definition

I feel like if I made this topic I'd get a bunch of bad responses about caring too much abut what other people think.
