There's a homeless guy that hangs out at an intersection near my house that has been there for years. I've always ignored him but I usually feel bad about it and I want to be nice for the holidays and all that. I just don't want people to think he stole it or anything like that

He's literally been there for at least half a decade. I think the police are aware

Maybe I'll just give him like 20 bucks and hope he doesn't use it on drugs. He just seems like a regular old dude but addiction doesn't always make itself apparent I guess

Give him some food and water instead. Like, a small bag of good relatively cheap calorically dense stuff that he doesnt have to cook, like peanuts or something else.

And also the biggest pizza you can find around you, everyone loves pizza.

Well since there's welfare here it's literally impossible to end up on the streets without having serious mental issues, being a substance abuser. So it's pretty much never a good idea to give money to a homeless. Especially with the meth wave plaguing the area since a few years

but in the third world country that is the US, I wouldn't be surprised that there is a decent amount of actually unfortunate people who got cancer and ended up on the streets trying to pay for treatments...

If he's been there for years it's more than likely he's just a home bum, fuck him.

Dude might spend it on drugs, but he also might spend it on food, or clothes, or whatever. I don't get why people are so judgmental of homeless and/or beggars.

Besides, if he does spend your cash on drugs, is that your fault? Of course not.

I had 2 homeless people come up and ask me for money in the US. I offered to buy them some lunch nearby instead and they said no. Fuck them

I even had 1 homeless guy ask for cigs. Fuck off

CEers say he'll just buy drugs and shit with it but that's not true for the most part. Some will, yes. But if you are that poor and someone gives you $100 and it's this close to winter? He or she'll probably spend it on a coat or gloves or boots.

to be clear he doesn't sleep at the intersection. he just sits there all day and goes somewhere else at night. I don't know where. I see him in the mornings and afternoons sitting at the intersection. so idk

You would be surprised at how many homeless come in to buy glass "incense burners", butane, and torches.

Some whip out a roll of money, with a couple of $100 bills presumably from SSI payments.

Offer him food (and clothes). If he refuses, he's probably going to spend the money on drugs or alcohol. no lie.

I have giving a homeless person $100.

Story time.

So I was doing laundry at a laundromat. I was also getting a hair cut somewhere else.
It was cold and there were a few homeless people in there, on sleeping under a folding table.
My cloths were in the machine washing, while I got my hair cut. I always put haircut money in a different pocket.
if the change machine. I didn't realize this, until after the cut...So I rushed back to the laundromat to look for it.

There was a lady in there, and I asked, basically.."I know those sounds weird, but do you see some money laying around." She said, no...
And then The guy sleeping under the table rustled and said, "Is this yours?"

He has all of my money and ID in his hand undisturbed. He said he was holding it in case someone comes back, and if they didn't he said he was going to bring it to the police station in the morning.

Needless to say, I expressed my gratitude in words, but I also did hook him up with a fat tip.

When I returned to gather my cloths once they were dry, he was gone.

Yup, I don't really care what he did with the money. That dude was sleeping on the floor on a cold winter night.
Whatever he did with it is fine with me, and there is a good chance he shared it with someone.
That man made less trouble for me, then 90% of the Yuppies I see on a daily basis.

I actually told a police officer about it, as a sorta feel good moment.

She said, basically, that is awesome, and went on to say, "Ya we don't really have issues with the homeless people of this town."

Sometimes you just gotta make Karma happen.
Everything comes around at some point.
