They are typically cheaper and easier to use. This is particularly true in cities that don't have a lot of taxis to begin with.

I hate taxis and those rideshare apps tbh. The only time I've taken a taxi is to get from my house to an airport or back home, and I just used the airport's taxi service for that. If I ever have to use a rideshare app I'll probably use Lyft :

I only ever use Taxis and Uber when traveling for my company. Ive used both because Im not paying for it so I really couldnt care how much it costs. However, in my experience Uber is always noticeably cheaper.

I mean Lyft/Uber ain't much more ethical but at least I can relate to drivers

I suspect it's mostly down to convenience. I've seen some rideshare-like taxi apps that work in specific areas, but if the cab companies could agree on a standard app or protocol with a wide coverage area, that would probably go a long way toward allowing them to compete more effectively.

idk, they're both hella shitty but Uber gets more negative coverage in the news and I see Lyft doing a lot of stuff around the DC area, especially during the holidays and for the military and stuff. Maybe Uber does, too.

I took an uber twice for travel expense and both drivers said they make enough to make a living. They maybe exception to the rule though so i dont know.

It's fucked up but a lot of uber drivers take advantage of this pretense to make unwanted sexual advances on women and shrug it off as 'they make me try to talk to customers'

I took a taxi home after the Patriots Falcons super bowl.

It took them 45 minutes after I called, he couldn't find the house on a residential suburban street, and then we had to direct him how to get home because he didn't have Google maps.

Then we had to pay in cash because he didn't take a card. He was fat, stank, and the car was nasty af.

Again taxi drivers do the exact same thing

Being an uber driver isn't more likely to make the driver rapey than a taxi driver.
