South park is more than that. When you decide to fill your comedy show with controversial topics and make regular political and social statements, your show becomes receptive to critiques and analysis from political and social perspectives. None of this is about whether I agree with them about trans athletes, but if they're gonna spend decades using trans people for cheap laughs then why not eventually also explore their real problems with a genuine trans character.

I can't speak for other people, but I wasn't bothered by the episode this week and I agree with them that trans athletes are just too strong to compete in women's events (not a very controversial opinion really). Even so it's still fair to analyze and criticize the show, it doesn't mean you hate it or that you're upset. The only thing that upsets me about south park is how stale randy's manchild/marijuana stuff got
Thats fair enough. And I think some people here are just discussing and critiquing.

Im just dumbfounded that theres people in here acting surprised or offended that SP made fun of transgendered people in comical way as a way to make a statement. As in anyone thinking some demographic is off limits to SP creators is just being naive.

This is why D&D sucks.

Those other games were much more strategy board games.

You can watch any episode for free at southparkstudios.com, and they are available right after they air. Honestly I don't see why more shows don't do this, they probably make way more money from people watching on their website for free than they do from comedy central.

The point of this episode was that anyone who even wants to discuss trans women in sports are immediately labeled a transphobe and ostracized. And then the episode was immediately labeled transphobic lol

That's the thing: it didn't make a statement at all. The episode didn't have anything to say, it just made fun of real people who are going through real issues.

Normally South Park just makes fun of ridiculous people who give other people a hard time.

Can't speak for other people but I'm not surprised or hurt they made fun of trans people. But they've been doing it for like 20 years now for low-hanging jokes and yet they still haven't introduced an actually trans character for people to empathize with. While they're taking potshots at trans people the whole time. Seems a bit unfair to me. They don't have to add a trans character but maybe they should if they want to keep harping on it.

People want to think that somebody like me who is criticizing something about South Park's politics is really angry. But in reality I'm not trying to demand them to do anything. I'm just pointing something out. You can ignore if you want

so I guess we just disagree about that.

If there's one thing I agree with the article on, it's that the message of the episode seems to be "you should be terrified of transpeople, especially transwomen." despite the fact that trans people are far more likely to be the victims of abuse rather than the perpetrators

This reminds me of when the voice actor for Chef complained about them making fun of Scientology, and their response was "you never had problems cashing checks when we made fun of Christianity".

South Park has always been pretty edgy, and it's always funny watching people flip from "the show is hilarious" to "this show is trash" based entirely on whether they are making fun of their particular pet issues or not. Luckily Matt Stone and Trey Parker have enough wherewithal to ignore the criticisms and stick to their vision.

Show has been closer to trash then great in recent years. Matt and Trey are spot on with the points they make but the episodes aren't really funny anymore. They basically admitted last episode to just trying to make themselves laugh with the Tegridy crap. It seems they've become the comedian that tries to make the four people in the room laugh as opposed to the other 96

Im assuming this episide was no different.

If you are born a gender and you die, and they find your bones hundreds of years later and test the DNA, you're going to be test as the gender you were born as. So you can identify how you want but in the end it still doesn't matter. Kind of the cruel joke on the trans community.

South park is really crappy about their depictions of trans people, as far as I know there isn't really a single genuine trans person on the show, they're all just either confused and treated as jokes like mr garrison or just lying and treated as jokes where you laugh at how vulgar and male they're being despite identifying as female like Heather in the s23 episode. I don't think they've ever once grappled with trans people on a level beyond making low-reaching jokes about how funny it is to see trans people not matching their gender

literally all of the characters in the show are jokes, why the fuck would there be a genuine trans person on the show where characters like Mr. Slave and Timmy exist

I remember one time I was in an argument of some sort on the Politics board, and someone said "this is the kind of stuff liberals want" and posted a short video of PC Principal.

I helpfully pointed out that PC Principal is a fictional character, not someone real, and they said "yeah well there are probably liberals that want this".

I learned about this episode via a tweet by Hollywood Reporter. Like a fool I went to the comments, and while there were some replies that mentioned the difference between "punching up" and "punching down", far more comments said "South Park mocks everyone and by the way these people are freaks who need to be stopped".

Point is that this is the issue with punching down. Bad faith actors latch onto this shit, use it as ammo, and in a world where people are being murdered just for being trans, it seems myopic.
