Current Events > Crysis 3 is a lot better than I remember. *spoilers*

I've been replaying the trilogy recently and 3 is really standing out to me. The first game is a really good Farcry sequel and an even better tech demo but the open ended environments don't tend to add much to the gameplay since you're still funneled into combat when it comes to it and the story is fun in it's simplicity but still very simple.

Crysis 2 was in the middle of EA's peak attempts to get those COD-bux so it's super linear and packed with set pieces, and it never really lets you off the leash to do what you want. The story goes in some weird places though which is neat, and the introduction of CELL is cool.

Then 3 goes completely off the rails with the story. New York is post apocalyptic and has been reclaimed by nature (which I'm always a sucker for) with CELL completely taking over, putting people in labor camps, and there is an underground resistance. Meanwhile Prophet is an electronic ghost inhabiting the corpse of the last games protagonist in order to use the nanosuit, and he is literally having prophetic visions and people think he's nuts. This shit is bananas. The gameplay is a good compromise between the first two games. It's still mostly linear but has a few bigger areas and the combat arenas give you a lot of options other than "turn invisible" or "just shoot everyone". I just wish there were some larger playgrounds and more secondary objectives and things to explore.

I'd really like to see what they could do with this series if they brought it back. You could make a straight up Metroidvania with all the different abilities you have. I'd love to see them amp up the combat even more like turning people into paste by throwing cars at them or just launching them into the next area code. Throw in a bunch of DOOM level powerful weapons. Being able to climb on more stuff to sneak around or bypass areas. This series still has a lot of potential.

Is Crysis 3 short? I heard it was only about 4-5 hours. Played Crysis 2 and loved it.

That was one of those stupid things every game has when it first comes out where some guy blazed through it and it somehow spread that it's super short. It's not, like, 15 hours but if you take your time it's a good length. I played for two hours today and am definitely not halfway through the game.

It was decent, but yeah, short. I got it for free from xbl gold, beat the campaign, never played it again.
