I'm fully aware that EA has a notorious reputation: embraced MTX, expressed an ethos that "single player games were dead," buys up studios only to kill them after some time. Hell, they were voted "the most evil company in America" several times in a row. So, I'm well aware that EA is saddled with quite the nefarious status.

However, 2019 saw something particular strange but overall pleasant: EA published two titles of quality. What I mean is, Need For Speed Heat had zero MTX, and was well received by both critics and gamers. Likewise, Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order also had zero MTX, and was a legitimate single player experience that, again, was well received by both critics and gamers.

Now, these could be mere exceptions and not the rule, but I wonder if maybe EA finally got the message from consumers and will offer more single player driven, straightforward titles that are free of the bullshit that has plagued their library of releases in recent years?

This is what people said about EA in 2008 when they released a string of good games like Dead Space and Mirror's Edge.

They still require you to install Origin to play their games, so no.

Im gonna go with no. Disney probably made sure there was no controversial microtransactions after the battlefront 2 fiasco. I guarantee the next battlefield games or big multiplayer games are loaded with them.

Exactly. Just like right now, back then they were experiencing some trouble with their audience and decided to actually give the players what they wanted but as soon as those games didn't make all the money in the world, they quickly went back to their old shenanigans. The same will happen this time because EA... EA never changes

This. Disney was NOT pleased with how EA turned Star Wars into a money-extracting ploy with Battlefront II. EA should consider themselves lucky that Disney didn't just straight-up cancel their exclusivity deal. But you can bet that any EA Star Wars game will be completely microtransaction-free in the future.

Two games is not a trend when the rest of your trajectory is so far lost, a mere 2 correction points is not enough to make up for the dozens upon dozens of negative transgressions that happened.

Fuck EA. Dont give them the benefit of the doubt. They also published Unravel1&2, A Way Out, and that twin-stick soul flame game but I wouldnt trust EA as far as I can swallow their intoxicating carcass of a game studio.
