Just wondering what the best normal way to go about doing this. I just get nervous like are most of them ok with it or will I usually get met with bad responses?

Are you going to publish the photos somewhere or just keep them in a file on your computer? Lol and are you using an actual camera or your phone?

Always make normal amounts of eye contact, smile a little when greeting them, and have a positive tone in your voice. And don't oogle them, obviously. Then say thank you and leave, unless they try to engage you in further conversation (Then just play it cool--You're in business! You are 100% getting laid son! Throw that camera away, your new life lays ahead of you!)

Oh, that's easy mode, then. Just ask if you can take a picture with them. Maybe compliment their cosplay. Are you going to the con? People always take pictures there.

Yeah, it's extremely common. From my experience, a large majority of cosplayers enjoy being photographed because they've usually put a lot of work into it. Hell, they probably get photographed a lot without any consent to begin with, that's a bit of an expectation at a larger con tbqh, so you're being extra polite by asking.

Just be polite and nice when asking. You'll be good to go. :)

If you are a creep and say that, it will probably sound creepy. If you are a regular guy and say that, it probably won't.

Imagine if you saw a celebrity on the street and asked to take a pic, no one would think that is creepy unless you are a creep and sound creepy to begin with.

I was gonna say this. Until I saw it was about cosplay. Tbh you should be fine just politely complimenting their cosplay and asking to take a picture with or of them.

If cosplay is involved, then it wont be creepy at all. Just dont be pushy and act needy. Something like this would help:

You: Sup! Thats a nice "Name of the character shes cosplaying" you've got there. Did you made it by yourself?

Her: Will mostly likely say thanks and will also answer your second question. If she gives you details about her outfit (assuming she made it or bought it somewhere" there are good chances shes an open/talktative person.

You: Oh well it surely looks great on you. You mind posing for a quick picture? That way you can practice on your way to the event.

If she says no, then just say "Aight thats fine, see you around the event" and leave.

If she says yeah, you are in.

As long as you dont look needy or desperate, you should be fine.
