I walked in and a customer was talking about a local business that had closed down. The manager commented on a Lon John Silver's that had been abandoned for the past ten years or so and mentioned that both it and the recently closed business were owned by the same guy. Then the customer taking the food into his arms said, "I bet he was a (slur for Muslims)." As he was walking out the door, the customer reiterated, "Did I say that? I meant fucking (slur for Muslims)."

I was so caught off-guard that I accidentally asked, "Hi, how may I help you?" to the manager. He wasn't paying attention to my flub but instead said something to the effect of, "I love it when they think they're clever."

I guess this is where the Current Year meme came from. It does no good to point out what year it is and be surprised that some people are still bigoted assholes.
