My long-awaited second music ranking topic is finally here! Sorry for making everyone wait so long. I got a bit caught up in other stuff in life going on and RtVGM , but now I'm determined to get this rolling.

Format is much the same as my last ranking topic, but this time I've included a little tidbit for each song on whether or not I've heard it before.

Here is one hell of a song to kick this thing off! It's pretty amazing how this manages to check the box for every element that leaves a terrible taste in my mouth. You have your standard modern pop vocals drowned out by autotune with a dull beat and repetitive, unchanging melody. I can appreciate how blatant and in-your-face the hypersexualized lyrical theming of this is, but this just sounds like every other Top 40 Pop song they play ad nauseam on the radio at work, so it's hard for me to even chuckle at this. Also my ratings are based off of the music itself, but the seizure-inducing flashing screen playing in this does it no favors. Congratulations/my condolences on last place!

I think the song is pretty fun, like the rest of the album Kim invokes horror tropes (here we have the typical targets of slashers) in the form of pop songs from the perspective of a twisted killer psycho basically. That being said, I can definitely see why one would dislike it.

Starting off with that ear-splitting screech, this song can go a number of ways. Okay, heavy drumbeat, this is cool and oh no. Here come the vocals. Admittedly I've never been the biggest fan of Death Metal (with a few notable exceptions), but that EURHGGEHGEHGRGHGHERHG just sounds so goofy that I can't take any of this seriously. At least with other Death Metal it can maintain the consistent brutal feel it has to it, but this ends up sounding more funny than it does heavy.

I love cats as much as anyone else (except my roommate's cat who hates everyone), but this song just doesn't do it for me. This is strongly reminiscient of YouTube meme culture circa 2012 when everything was about Nyan Cat, Rage Comics, and slapping the Impact font onto any image you can find. So yeah, neither the humor value nor the heavily edited audio is really impressing me in any way. It just feels like a relic of a bygone era of the internet, one that I felt was a low point at that. The real cherry on top though, that gets this such a low ranking, is how shamelessly they plug their phone app at the end of the video. I could've really done without that.

I don't get it. I've never played TF2 myself, so I've never really understood its fandom and its esoteric references, in-jokes, and memes. This is very short, and the melody is kinda catchy, I guess? The whole context behind any of this entirely flew over my head, so this is just kinda there. This reminds me of in high school where there'd be those situations when one of my classmates would be bawling laughing saying Hey dude, check out this hilarious song! then I'd just be standing there completely expressionless wondering why this suddenly became the subject of our conversation. Also, apparently Xarlable was involved in this to some extent (hi)

I was both excited and dismayed to see this nominated for my topic. I'm actually a fan of Corinne Bailey Rae and love the original version of this song, but man this does not stack up. The original would've placed much better. Chipmunking a song is really just the OG Nightcore. Bump the pitch up a bit and you get a fun little novelty, but this mix doesn't really add anything. It's a lot like Kidz Bop. This does score a few points from good source material, but I don't really see myself going out of the way to listen to this specific mix.

Can't say I'm surprised that was my lowest ranked song--not that I don't really like it, but I seriously doubt there are any other Chipmunk fans around these parts.

Right around the time you asked for nominations, I was thinking about how much I wanted people to give me songs they liked even if they knew I probably wouldn't like them (in the interest of trying to expand my musical horizons)... and realized I couldn't honestly ask that of other people if I were never going to be willing to offer up my personal favorites as sacrifices. For better or worse, you were the first person to open nominations to everything after I resolved to nominate a Chipettes song somewhere, so you rather got one by default.

For what it's worth, I went with this one because their voices weren't nearly as high-pitched as usual. It's rather tame compared to other offerings, so I thought it'd have the best odds of not getting an absolute zero out of the entire discography... all things considered, I'm
pleased with the result and that you were willing to listen to it at all.

This is the sort of mid-'00s Emo music that I never really quite got into. A number of my friends were into this sort of thing, so I have a bit of a nostalgia factor going on for a few of the songs in the genre, but this one doesn't really resonate with me. I like the meaning behind the lyrics in this, about how it's about battling against depression, but on that front I feel like there's a lot of other music out there that feels a lot more deep and powerful than this. Towards the end this just sounds like radio rock.

Continuing the trend of meme songs placing poorly, this brings us to our next song. There are parts of this that are terrible enough to land this song in dead last place, and a lot of these so-called meme songs in this I've not actually heard before. Kids these days with their newfangled internet phenomena, I tell ya. But, there are a few points in this that I felt were really cleverly done like segment in the middle with JonTron, or the part where it transitions into Snow Halation that I was really not expecting. This averages out into something I don't really like, but I appreciate its high points. If this were just the second half, I'd probably give this a much better ranking.

Back to radio rock with this one. This one gets a few more points since it kinda reminds me of a diet Linkin Park, which is a band I was never crazy for as a kid, but in the last 3 years or so actually grew an appreciation for and started getting into their stuff. I'd probably just listen to Linkin Park if I wanted to hear something that sounded like this, but if it came on the radio, I wouldn't feel immediately inclined to change the station or anything. This definitely has that distinct early/mid '00s sound, like something you'd hear from an early PS2 racing game.

I get the appeal behind this one, but the humor factor wears off pretty quickly. This reminds me a whole lot of Adult Swim-style humor in its lyrical content and dry delivery. That's not really a bad thing, or rather it wouldn't be a bad thing, but at this point I've gotten kind of sick of it. Funny songs have always been kind of hit-or-miss for me, leaning more towards miss in general. The whole ironic indie folk sound isn't helping it much either.

Green Day has always been one of those hit-or-miss bands for me. They have a couple songs I really like, but most of their stuff I don't care much for. This falls into the latter category. The intro is pleasant enough, but then around 1:20 it just becomes another punk rock song. If anything, I find the main riff annoying (if that makes any sense). Again I count this one as '00s radio rock, but at least this one is distinctly Green Day instead of the nondescript alternative rock music of the previous entries.

This is very DnB, that's for sure. I simultaneously think this is kind of cool, while at the same time not particularly enjoying this. (Does that make sense?) I like how the rhythm changes itself up, but I just wish this had more of a coherent melody. It kind of just sounds like noise with a cool drum beat going on in the background, then ends up overstaying its welcome.

Just because you can mash up Space Jam with anything, doesn't mean you should mash it up with everything. These are both good songs on their own, but they sound terrible together. There are a surprisingly large amount of these kind of mashups that sound great, and this is not one of them. This doesn't work.

More '00s hard rock here, but this one at least has some engaging guitar riffs. I like the intro, and the *Epic guitar solo* part is actually really good, but I don't like the vocals that make up the bulk of the song in the middle. This has a lot of stuff I like, and a lot of stuff I dislike, with the latter unfortunately winning out, but this has grown on me bit by bit with each subsequent relisten.

So apparently this is a mashup of two different songs that UF8 thought sounded similar. I am not familiar with either, so I am rating this only on its own merit. The melody to this is actually kinda catchy, my main gripe being the sound quality of how this was mixed together. Even so, I can't really tell where one song begins and the other ends. I probably should listen to the originals. Anyways, this sounds like it could be the opening or ending theme to an anime.

Because i hadn't really tried doing a mashup before all i did was alter the volume of the capsule side here and there (which was like three times louder by default) and barely retime anything with both running almost entirely as-is at the same time

The fact that it resulted in something almost more cohesive than them individually says it all

For all the crap that Nickelback gets from people online, this song actually isn't bad. Part of it I feel has to do with the fact that this song doesn't get played nearly as much as their other songs, but even taking that into account this still just sounds better. I like the strings playing in the background too. This still isn't quite my thing, but I'm not immediately turned away from it either. This is very early '00s nostalgic.

Less than 20 songs in and we're already to the 5/10s, good job!
