I saw six episodes. It's terrible. Outside of the dude who plays Johnny, the actors are bad at acting.
And everything is weird with the "it was several months later" timeskip they had. You couldn't just devote an episode to that?

Plus the whole "wow it's not what you think we swear" like Johnny begging Miguel's sister to let him train or his own son working for "the enemy". I wouldn't be surprised if

I'm sorry I binged it and I hate it.

I didnt actually realise the girl was Miguels sister. I just assumed it was his young mother.

I think I enjoyed the series because it wasnt just a typical nostalgia play but actually had a half decent story from showing a different perspective on characters and events. Mind you I was a huge fan of the original series (well 1 & 2 at least).

TC, I think the biggest issue you're facing is that you're just watching it now and people hyped it up too much. I really, REALLY loved the show, but I was expecting it to be terrible, and you were expecting it to be perfection thanks to the high praise it got from the other people that thought it was going to be bad

But honest, if you think it's horrible, then stop watching it. I think it's one of the best series going on right now

I think my biggest issue that it's a whole "you think you know the plot but wow suprise it's different" but not really because it's kinda obvious what they're going for.
Migeul is the kid who gets bullied but is slowly and slowly becoming more corrupt. Johnny is really a nice guy but still has a dark past and is trying to do good but wow guess what he struggles. Daniel still has self-esteem issues and actually has a lot of issues with assuming Johnny isn't a bad person.

As soon as Johnny had a teenage kid it was obvious he's going to side with Daniel. I dunno I feel like a teenager in drama class tried writing it and trying to make it filled with "wow surprise" but like it's easy to tell what's happening next

Oh wow okay.
I'll try binge some more when drunk and see how I like season 2, maye season 1 is just too much with the obvious surprises though I am somewhat looking forward to it since I know Kreese comes back and I really liked how evil he was

My read is it is more that the Cobra Kai way of karate is corrupt but the Miyagi-do way of karate builds strong roots and good people. There arent good or bad kids, there is good or bad karate.

both johnny and daniel are a bit blind to it all, though johnny may be starting to get it. But early he could only see the benefit Cobra Kai brought him, later on he can start seeing the damage it does.

neither johnny or daniel were the good guy or bad guy in karate kid. mr. miyagi was teh good guy, cobra kai instructor was the bad guy.

tl;dr no bad student, just bad teacher.

but i think cobra kai (the show) is all around showing it's not so binary and there's a lot of grey in terms of good vs bad.

normally you want to cheer the underdog, but what if they become the "bad" guy... at what point do they cross over? is there a clear line? etc..
