My Ford explorer had nearly constant problems after 100k. Worst car I've ever had no question.

I was left stranded twice a year. Had to repair something nearly monthly. 180k miles and it was un- drivable

Lol, right? Knock on wood, I haven't had any major issues that wasn't covered by the warranty (rack and pinion thing somewhat early on), but I let it expire because my car is probably worth less than a thousand dollars at this stage lmao

Error, you're probably fine if you have the base non-Ecoboost 4 cylinder motor and the standard 6 speed auto, those are both very reliable if maintenance is kept up. You might run into issues with wear items and suspension components like ball joints and tie rods, but that's inevitable on any vehicle

other known problems are the Sync system, throttle bodies and blend door actuators (clicking in the dash by the vents)

aww yeah I knew going with the non-ecoboost was a better idea.

Didn't trust a brand new engine that was only used for a few years.

what are you like a germaphobe, lol? I can lysol the steering wheel. Doesn't seem to make sense to buy brand new when the second you drive off the lot it has depreciated in value by thousands and thousands.

lol, some are better than others, but there's always complexity and added reliability issues with turbocharged engines, like oil leaking from the turbo

the V6 ecoboost they put in the Fusion Sport has such severe cooling issues for the back two cylinders that they're known for warping the heads and needing a new motor outright. Handled a few of those in the service lane. The 1.6 inline 4 was even worse, it would again overheat in the rear cylinder, warp BOTH the block and head, and potentially catch fucking fire. Ford got sued over that one

was car bought used?
you take care of the basic maintenance of it?
oil changes every 3k
tire rotation every 28k
brakes every 30k
all maintenance check ups at the milage like 100k tune up (belts and spark plugs)

it takes luck of the draw and the mentality - take care of car and itll take care of you. the luck part figures in used cars if the previous owner took care of the car. buying new cars usually have that 4 yr or 100k warranty to take care of major stuff or recalls. again, 100k of wear & tear aint bad if you took care of the cars basic needs. older cars need more maintenance. the longer you own it, the more is required for the car to sustain its performance.

if you just get the car and pump gas into it for 100k that too is lucky. it got you to where you needed to go whenever you wanted.

buying a new car is always an option. but you can get the car you want if you can budget yourself to keeping and saving. no car payments should mean some money freed up. some money saved for any car issues. some money for a new car.

and another note @Error1355, the 4 cylinder in your car is actually designed by Mazda and has a timing chain that will probably never need to be replaced, so don't ever worry about it being a Ford lol

Sweet.

My brother got a 2014 Ford Fiesta and he's had to have the transmission worked on 3 times in the 2 years he has had it.

He got in on that class action.

oh yeah, the Ford DCT transmission. talk about a fucking nightmare, I dealt with so many of those. It's just a piss poor design all around, and no matter how much they try to improve the oil seals that keep the clutches dry, they're freaking seals and will always be the weak link and leak over time. plus the whole faulty TCM thing that literally made the vehicle undrivable without warning

They're STILL putting them in the newish crossover EcoSport as the only transmission option

I always felt bad for people bringing them in for those issues, it took every ounce of strength to not just out and say "you're always going to have these issues, it's a faulty design, you shouldn't have bought this vehicle, please get rid of it as soon as you can afford to"

Those mileage estimates are extremely outdated. Most modern cars can go5000 to 6000 miles on conventional, 8000 on sythethic blend, and 10k on full synthetic. If not more. My uncle I live with is a 25 year mechanic for the number one dealership in the state. He trains all the other mechanics. He'll be the first to tell you most of those mileage numbers for getting service are not only outdated, they're intended to bring you back to the dealership more often for service. It's a sham. He said most modern cars can go much longer than the general public realizes before actually needing to be serviced. If you're running conventional oil, you do not need to change you oil until the change oil light comes on.

Also, you don't just get your breaks replaced, just check the pads and shoes and stuff.

My car is a 2015 I bought brand new, have had it 5 years, it has 80k miles on it, and is still running the original factory pads and rotors, I have my uncle check them all the time. The only things I do to this car are changing oil, tire rotations, and filters and batteries(batteries don't last longer than 2 years in AZ) I've had to buy a new set of tires, and that wasn't until the fifth year.

I just now had my first incoming issue, and that's just one of the axles spitting grease, which isn't an immediately needed thing just yet, and won't be too expensive.

People over maintain their cars and feed right into the car shop racket.

One of the few good things about my very basic car. It's American but has a Korean(Hyundai) transmission.
