I was already tired from working all day and walking home for nearly an hour, and then I get home to see no one there; they're visiting relatives out of town.

Didn't feel like sitting on the cold/rain for hours so I walked over to the mall nearby(ish). My phone's getting low and I have a charger but nowhere to plug it in. For now I'm just reading manga on my tablet at McDonald's..

Landlord?

Office was closed.

Finally found an outlet at Coney Island. I feel bad that I didn't buy any food, but I already ate at McD's. I did buy some chips at least.

Ive done it. If you forget your main key you have to buzz a neighbour to let you in. And theyre not really supposed to do that.

I'm home now. They came to pick me up just as the place was closing.

The employees were really nice about it; saying it's happened to them before too. I should go back and buy something sometime.

I'm exhausted. Left the house at six this morning, and got home after ten.

This.

I went from calling someone to help open up my car to calmly removing my shoe laces and getting in within seconds.

I carry two keys (on in my backpack and one in my pocket) just in case.

This is why you hide a spare in a pot if you live in a house, or give a spare to a neighbor or nearby friend thatll come help you if you need it. Otherwise learn how to lock pick and keep a set of tools in the car. Or as a last resort, break a window.

A long time ago, I lived on the 3rd floor of an apartment building with a girlfriend. We got home late from a night out and the deadbolt on the door is broken. The key won't go in because all the tumblers are loose.

It's late, so I decide that I can climb up the balconies to ours and let us in. I was right. About 10 minutes later, the police show up at the complex and make sure no one broke into the apartment on the floor directly below us. It was a good laugh.

i would say waiting for someone else to get there would be a far better option than replacing a fucking window

Where is your key? I always keep 2 extra keys just in case I get locked out. You could call Pop-A-Lock but they charge like $60 bucks.

I replaced all my door locks with electronic locks. You punch in a code, the door unlocks for 5 seconds, then locks itself automatically. Never have to deal with keys, you can provide temporary codes to friends or relatives, and you never have to worry about whether you remembered to lock the door. I got the self-contained type, battery operated and no IoT crap (the "S" in IoT stands for Security!).

(I've had people ask "what do you do if the battery runs out?" Well, there's 3 doors with these locks so the odds that the battery would fail on all 3 at the same time is incredibly remote, but there is a backup physical key that I keep in a highly inconvenient location if absolutely necessary.)

I've locked myself out before, it sucks.

I strongly suggest getting a copy made and hiding it somewhere for things like this.

Could also get a non electric one. My step dad had one. I thought it was cool.

Was the deadbolt broken because you were robbed? Cause that seriously sucks Dude

My neighbors come and go pretty quickly. And I don't trust any of them as far as I can throw them; I've had many things stolen from outside my apartment over the years. I'd never leave a key hanging around or outright give someone one. The whole walking part shows I don't have a car.

My mom use to lock the screen door at one house we lived in. She would forget to unlock it. And she had the only key. She left through the garage because it was connected to her room, so never thought to unlock the screen door. We didnt have the coded garage doors at that house, so I couldnt do that. Eventually, I found out that the keys worked for the back door, as well (this was the first one I had that had a doorknob). But I didnt know for like an hour while I was in the treehouse...

So everyday, Ive have to open the back gate and go in through the backdoor. So started to remember after a month or two...

I do this. My neighbor has one. I would give on to close friends, as well... But Im not sure who that would entail here...

break a window.

While I didnt break one, I did have an open one to get through... Well, unlocked... Just in case I couldnt get in...
