I love my shmups.. I probably have more shmups for the Mega Drive/Genesis then any other game on that system!
But there are some others on different consoles that are just awesome. So here are some of my favourites Truxton Steel Empire Arrow Flash Fire Shark Air Buster Space Mega force Gynoug/Wings of Wor Raiden Trad (MD/Gen) Abadox Gradius 2 Dragon Spirit: The New Legend Einhander Darius Twin These are just some of my favourites, but I'm always looking for some new ones to try out and then buy... I'm not into the genre too much, but I still play Einhander from time to time. Touhou games are fun too

I'm always looking for new ones, but the ones I've played recently are:
Ikaruga Gundeadligne Suguri/Sora/QP Shooting/etc Warning Forever Plus the new Touhou games are on Steam... I only bought Wily Beast and Weakest Creature so far It's hard to find good ones these days My favourites are 1943: Battle of Midway (NES) and Twin Eagle (NES, not good/guilty pleasure) Plus there's Thunder Spirits on the SNES... a shmup I play when I'm miserable and want other people to be miserable too. EDIT: Raptor: Call of the Shadows was one I played a lot, but it did NOT age well. There was also Novastorm which is still balls hard. Hellfire - Played on Mega Drive, but there is also an arcade release.

Fantasy Zone tops the list for me, purely for sentimental reasons. It was the first game I ever played, way back in the day.
