I only say Indian when I mean actual Indians, but I'll still say east Indian depending on how old the person I'm talking to is or whatever.

I usually refer to myself as being Native American. However I refer to other indigenous Americans as indians.

There is also a difference culturally between rez indians (reservation), rural indians and city indians. I'm a city indian.

I don't take offense when people refer to natives as indians.
