Why didn't that one guy running the city not want help, and the hobbit had to turn on the fire (which led to an amazing fire montage) to pretend the guy wanted help?

I don't think he was corrupted by evil magic. That was the other wizard (not Gandalf).

That was Thoden.

This guy was extremely corrupt and vain. He was extremely pissed Boromir died and not Faramir because he was the favored child.

Though I'm going by the movie. Not sure if the book is different.

Also I wasnt joking when I said Jackson changed the story. In the book the beacons are lid on Denethors orders when Gandalf and Pippin arrive in Minas Tirith. I guess having a fun climbing sequence and a cool shot of lines of fire being lit was why they changed it.

Yea I Googled it and that's pretty much what it said. Jackson changed the story for him, making him an inept leader.

I also Googled this, and found that in the books, the ghosts can't do anything except scare people.

In the movie, Aragorn needed them to fight at pellanor fields. Once they fight for him, their old contract with the king was fulfilled and they all peaced out.

So it was just the Rhohirim and Minas Tirith armies that defeated the orcs?

Aragorn arrives with several armies via boat rather than arriving with a wave of invimcible green CGI.

Yup. It's a pretty important detail that is excluded from the movie. Instead it goes with the idea that Boromir's death is the main reason Denethor has given up, when it was really that plus what Sauron was feeding him through the Palantir.

I dont particularly feel the movie needed to spell out that Denny fucked the pslsntir in his spare time. He was cuckoo and the palantir was there. Thats enough, IMO.

my main issue, as with a lot of other characters, is that he feels exceptionally dumbed down so they dont have to take time going into detail to establish what his issue is.

also his death scene is massive cringe. Its basically a CGI animation flex.

I don't think the Palantir was shown at Minas Tirith at all in the films, so it wasn't even something really implied. Unless I just never noticed it.

It was heavily implied that he had one in the movies. There was a line about the "eyes of the white tower" and Denethor had knowledge of Aragorn, which surprised Gandalf.

Thanks for the clarification on the Palantir. The movie definitely doesn't delve into all that outside with Pippin.

Definitely made it seem like he was just super angry and delusional about Boromir.

Great as that is, I do agree that there are limits to how much could be in the movie. Doesnt mean the film should have cut Saruman entirely like it did, though. Still, I suppose that is preferably to the garbage death scene with him they actually did film and put in the extended version.

I didn't like how they did that. It's Peter Jackson's lack of subtlety showing again. He was a dick, and always a dick apparently, in the book, but the movie makes him cartoonishly evil-like with stuff like him eating that drum stick with the blood coming out. He did Wormtounge the same way. Like seriously, who would trust a guy who looks and acts like that?

Without the movies, I never would have gotten into the books and become the total Tolkien fanboy I am today, but it's kinda hard to watch certain parts of the movies again with how badly they botched or changed them.

See I always interpreted it as his knowledge of Aragorn coming from his agents or something. Of course I saw the movies before I read the book, so I didn't realize he could potentially have a Palantir of his own.
