Seems like almost everyone here is on something. What's going on?

Why is the question why are so many people on meds and not why are so many people anxious or depressed? One seems very critical and close to anti-psychiatry Scientology mumbo jumbo and the other is being concerned for your fellow human.

From my tween years to my mid 20's, I was on various anti-depressants and the like. I've been on so many I can't even remember them all because nothing ever worked. A few years ago I just said screw it and stopped taking anything and I've actually been a whole lot better. Looking back, the medicine may have made things worse and I think some people may not truly need them and some doctors are over prescribing them.

That's just me though. I'm not some anti-medicine person. A lot of people truly need it. It's just hard though because they're so many different ones and finding the right medicine for someone is tough because everyone's brain is different.

It seems to me that one question leads into the other naturally.

Why are so many people sick?
Why are so many sick people taking potentially hazardous meds with mixed successes?

It's also a whole cultural phenomenon in and of itself, especially bad here in Canada where you can go to a walk-in clinic whenever for free.

Like I get that people never want to feel bad or uncomfortable for even a second, but people are legit rushing to the doctor the second they have so much as a case of the sniffles. Then instead of just letting their body do its thing like nature intended, they're getting prescribed antibiotics (mainly to placate them, whatever they have is almost guaranteed to be viral) and nuking their microbiome leading to problems further along down the road and contributing to overall antibiotic resistance in society.

My example has nothing to do with the topic at hand other than referencing the "pill for every ill" mentality. A lot of people could see significant improvements just through proper nutrition and exercise. But it's easier to just pop some pills than to actually work on yourself and set goals.

No, because that's not the point. The point is that you shouldn't be going around claiming something is potentially dangerous when you've done zero research on it. At that point, your ignorance isn't the problem, you are.

I've never met more lgbt/depressed/anxious/ etc... people in one spot, or if i did they aren't as forthcoming about it.

Only other thing is that there are a ton of LGBT players on FFXIV

Option 1: Take something that might make things better.

Option 2: Do nothing and hope the voices telling you to hurt yourself don't win out.

Consider how much suffering toy must be going through that taking such a risk is worth it.

I've considered getting on medication, even very recently, but I'm typically able to keep my shit under control most of the time these days. I think years back before I learned how to handle stuff, meds would have been really good for me.

It just depends, a lot of people are on it and don't need it, and a lot of people it helps.

I wish I could learn how to slow my brain down without medication. Some nights my thoughts race so fast that I cant get to sleep for hours.

Look into mindful meditation, it's something I try to do every morning and night, and it has honestly helped so much.

That, and controlled breathing exercises from meditation can be done at any time in your day to kind of slow things down.

Don't look at meds as a way to keep things under control, look at them as a way to ease a burden on you. It's not whether you need them or not, but whether they'd help.

Meditation is seriously underrated, the only caveat is that you HAVE to practice it. It's like any other skill, and if you only try meditating when you need it, it's not going to be nearly as effective. Dedicate a few minutes a day to meditation.

-People have always been fucked up, the difference is that we recognize it a little better now.

-The vast majority of people aren't on drugs for mental health.

- The internet pools ideas together, like attracts like; if you see X, you're on a site or app where X is popular, and thus attracts more X.

Please correct me if I'm wrong here, but a lot of people in this topic seem to be going off "I just kinda see this with some frequency" rather than having done even a bit of an internet search. Remember, your local sample size is nothing. Absolutely nothing.

Oh and meditation really is the tits. Should be taught everywhere.

Yeah, no. Those can help/hurt, but those aren't the reason.
