I never wanted to start my own business but my wife did. It started earlier this year. There were lots of ridiculous rules, laws, taxes and fees to deal with. Majority of the issues were just due to it being New York I know

That's what turned me off to doing it.

If you have a lot of money to start, it makes a lot of headaches less painful. To build, the miscellaneous costs and money borrowed, it was over 200k

The fees added up, as did the delays. Some hold ups were ridiculous though. Started late because there was a giant oak tree that needed to be cut down. Easy. Once that was down, guy was supposed to come get it. After 3 weeks of excuses, had to pay someone else to cut it up and remove it. Filled a dump truck.

2 week hold up over stickers on the windows. Inspector said it has to come off. Builder says no, it'll create a pocket for water at the bottom. No sign off until we got official word from manufacturer.

1 week delay over a light in a closet

3 days for excavator issues

1 day to ensure septic tank was empty despite it being empty and proven it was

3 days because the guy who had to take measurements of the land for updated abstract "couldn't find the property"

At minimum 4 days for people to look at the driveway and approve it (cancelled 3 times and can't have it without their approval)

You get the idea. I know there's worse cases out there but those are memorable enough
