The plan is to try to be stealthy (okay I can do that easily) and not kill everyone. I've only ever played up until mission 3 I think, with the long bridge you have to get by and then gave up years ago
I also forget nearly all the story, I play as Corvo who was a sweet man who played hide and go seek with young Emily.
Oh yeah and low chaos, I forgot that but I found out the heart lets me... tell people's thoughts or something. And so far, their Thoths are making me wanna fucking kill some of them and we are of course helping Granny Rags because we're already aware she's clearly a nice old lady with nothing at all strange about her.

If you care about achievements, make sure you're careful about where you leave unconscious bodies. There's a chance rats will feast on them, and when they do so, the game counts it as you killing them.

Or just drop the lame stealth stuff and go on the killing spree that makes Dishonored so fun.

I was told the high chaos ending is really negative, like bad but Corvo apparently slaughtered everyone.
On the other hand, fuck 'em.
I know about the rats thing so I'm dropping bodies on top of tables or stuff

The high chaos ending is negative, but it's the journey that matters. Plus the Low Chaos ending is ultimately canon anyway, so it's all good.

I'm enjoying it a bit more now since I learned that I don't need to actually loot every guard for money.
So I'll just play it a bit like Thief. Except stabbing those fucking louts who were bullying Granny Rags and the two dudes who were taunting the old man in his home

The stealth is weirdly broken, it reminds me of Deus Ex even on very hard. Pop a sleep dart, duck away, wait, another sleep dart

There's not much challenge. Or incentive to explore outside of runes, really. You get fun tools but they're pointless in stealth.

Maybe I need a break after 4.5 hours. I've only finished the first mission.

IIRC, sleep darts are pretty useless. They realize they've been darted and alert other people before they go down. The game definitely lacked some tools for stealth/no kill runs, but I found it pretty rewarding. I did have to do a little bit of an exploit in a later mission because helping Granny Rags in the early game creates a mission where you have to kill someone.

You also might not want it since you say the game's easy, but there's a bone-charm which massively helps with stealth runs. It reduces the time it takes to choke out someone to almost nothing. Bone charms are random, but there are certain ones you can save scum to reroll on.

The more I think about it, the more I feel that it's made with a sort of "kill some, spare most" idea. Like the two guards in the alley who think the one woman is a witch or the guys harassing that merchant or Granny Rags. A lot of the guards you can argue are just doing their jobs but some seem to be happy to do bad things and I feel that the game is like "go kill these guys"

Probably yeah.

Keep in mind that the heart isn't all-knowing. Mostly because there are only a certain number of lines. Spam it on NPCs enough and you'll get contradictory information like this:

  • "He visits his father in the asylum, though the man no longer remembers him."
  • "His entire family was taken by the plague. It is just him now."

I thought the heart was talking in general about the areas I was in. It was talking about how she visited the distillery before but didn't mention anything much about specific characters other than Granny Rags

There are quotes for the areas you're in, but there are also generic quotes for NPC classes.

Not true. Sleep darts are incredibly effective, and they're basically one of your only tools if you want to play non-lethally.

If you're enjoying this one, definitely give the sequel a try. As far as gameplay goes, it does everything significantly better than the first one. Dishonored 2 is a much more difficult game (though it can still be cheesed), and you also have a much broader array of options for taking out enemies non-lethally.

By the way, if you're getting tired of spamming Blink, I highly recommend using Possession to navigate. It's quite fun.

Yeah I'm starting to buy some powers now. I've really been limiting myself and I think it ruined a lot of the first few hours. But I'm more open to using the crossbow lethally and other powers other than blink, at least possession for the rats for mission 3.

That's who's heart it is, yes (according to multiple hints in game, I looked it up)

I'm starting to get into the swing of things. I'm playing this like I'd play Hitman or Metal Gear Solid V after I get used to the level, trying to take out people quietly to get the perfect score.I'll go stealth but imma kill who I gotta kill. Fuck the high or low ending.

The wiki does say they work that way in combat, but I was never in combat. Maybe because he mentioned Deus Ex in that post, my brain just assumed they worked identically to Deus Ex.
