As someone who really likes Pokemon and MTG, Pokemon tcg makes 0 sense to me and seems to have no balance whatsoever. But again I don't fully understand it. Power creep is insane.

Ultimately it's just like most other TCGs in that your ultimate goal is just to build your deck around the most powerful cards with the best synergies. The difference is Pokemon is a lot more obvious when it comes to the best cards.

I do miss old school (base set/jungle/fossil era) Pokemon TCG where everyone was running the same haymaker or raindance decks.

Believe me, it's balanced. Heck, for over a decade the strongest hp thing was like, wailord ex. And that only changed when they got to XY or SM.
