Servers don't do shit to deserve more than minimum wage.

Refilling drinks/writing the order down/ and checking in once ever 10 minutes is nothing tip worthy.

Making good food is tip worthy

Ok.
Waiters can often make less than minimum wage, therefore they need the tips more.

Cooks at least make minimum.

...so I guess cooks do deserve it more, but waiters need it more. *shrug*

The cooks paycheck is built into the price of the food you buy. If you think the food is good enough to be worth more than what you paid for it, then yeah you should be able to tip the cook.

Tipping is a scheme where the 99% pay the wage/salary instead of the 1%

People are totally fooled by this.

Don't "tip", give.

Tips are also taxable.

it even says "For all debts, public and private"

So give servers min wage and cooks what servers get now.

How is it that being paid below minimum wage (by law) is excluded in this case.

You get paid (X) unless it's covered by tips.

If you do not, it's the companys responsibilty to compensate the remainder, up to minimum wage, per hour, to equal minimum wage per hour.

TLDR, you're paying for their wage on the companys behalf.

GIVE, not tip.

Giving is non-taxable.

Tipping is.

Wrong. If their wage plus tips add up to less than minimum wage, their employer is required to make up the difference. So, there is no need to tip.

Exactly. Only exception is if the tips add up to exceed minimum wage.

But tips are taxable.

Tips are taxable, but giving money is not.

So give, don't tip.

When I worked at Mcdonalds, it said you are not allowed to accept tips, if you got any, put it in the drawer (register/till)

If the customer gives me money, and the customer is always right....

Waiters are the ones who get yelled at when an order is slightly wrong, They have to keep tabs on multiple tables. they have to clean up after assholes and their kids who make messes. they have to clear off tables quick enough for the next patrons. I agree cooks deserves tips, but don't say waits "don't do shit".

People should get paid well and get tipped. Shame businesses use tips as a way to pay people less. The system is broke.

That never fucking happens.

It might be what the law says, but practically no restaurants do it in practice.

Good luck proving it too, just a fun way to get fired if you even try.

The whole system is moronic, and the food should just cost whatever it takes to make sure everyone is paid well. Tipping culture as an expectation is dumb. Though obviously you should still tip until we as a country finally get it sorted out.

Cooks should be able to be tipped. I used to get a $1 tip from a certain old gentleman when I was a line cook

Tipping is literally getting the 99% to pay the 99% on the 1%s dime.

"They can pay below the minimum wage, which is law" apparently doesn't even spark any kind of "Wait a minute"

And they of course, pull the same "blame the consumer" like Listerine in 1930s, (halitosis) automakers in 1930s (jaywalking) and coca-cola in 1960s (litterbugs) and even today so many people still fall for it. Tipping culture is VERY toxic.

I worked at Mcdonalds. For 11 years. I can count the number of tips I got on one hand.

why not pay servers at least minimum wage and have tips go to every person on the shift evenly?

To pay them as less as possible. Why does Wal mart have 24 registers and only 4 are open at any one time?

THey make 440$ billion a year and yet, they still can't afford to pay their staff.
